Cohort 1 of the Yorkshire and Humber internship programme officially launched on 17 April 2026, marking a significant milestone for aspiring researchers in the region. The inaugural workshop brought together interns and faculty from the Yorkshire and Humber Community of Research Practice, offering the chance to connect, introduce themselves, and select their internship buddies. The atmosphere was vibrant, reflecting the enthusiasm and anticipation surrounding the new cohort.
The event featured a packed agenda, beginning with a welcoming address from Professor Wendy Baird, the newly appointed Dean of the NIHR Academy. Participants also heard from Ross Evans, a patient and public involvement representative, who shared valuable insights into his experiences with research, inspiring attendees and highlighting the importance of collaborative engagement.
It was such an inspiring day, a real privilege to be amongst health professionals with enthusiasm for their specialities. I am excited to start my internship and be part of this community.
